The Essence of Children’s Meditation

Children’s meditation is a good way to help children become aware of themselves and cultivate mindfulness and inner peace. Nowadays, children are often exposed to a daily life characterized by numerous performance demands, decisions, and distractions. In meditation, children experience the strength of presence and realize that a break from intention allows them to delve into the depth of their own being and experience inner peace that lies beyond the hustle and bustle of everyday life. They thus become more independent and self-confident.

For children’s meditation, we have formulated four core principles on which all our courses and offerings for children and teenagers are based:

1. Engaging with the “Here” and “Now”

This experience of meditation invites children to explore the present moment and free themselves from pressure and expectations. Through this, children learn that it is enough to be present with their thoughts, instead of indulging in memories and ideas of the future. This opens their eyes to the essentials of the moment. Contentment and a love for simplicity are cultivated.

2. a Break from “Musts” and “Shoulds”

In meditation, it’s not about optimizing reality, but about consciously recognizing and accepting it. Children are encouraged to accept themselves as they are in this present moment. This break from the pressure of “musts” and “shoulds” creates space for self-love and gives children the freedom to simply be, without judgment. Instead of adapting to external expectations, they can flourish through the lightness of the moment and show themselves as they are.

3. Allowing the World to be as it Is

Children are encouraged in meditation to leave external circumstances unchanged. This practice promotes acceptance of their surroundings and teaches children that they don’t have to control everything. In this conscious letting go, space for inner peace and serenity is created. It also opens up the possibility to perceive the world around them in a deeper way and discover the beauty in the present moment.

4. Exploring the World with all Senses

This involves a conscious, alert, playful perception of the moment with all their senses. This conscious, vibrant awareness enables them to fully grasp the variety of impressions in the present moment and creates a foundation for a deeper understanding of their own feelings and their surroundings.

Children’s meditation encourages consciously exploring the present moment and letting go of pressure and expectations. This practice creates space and enables children to flourish and consciously perceive the world with all their senses.
